Futures First Programme
On 1st January 2017, twelve Year 12 students went to Bath University for the day as part of the Futures First Programme.
The following is an overview of what they got up to on the day:
- The students had the opportunity to take part in a lecture led by a university academic, which aimed to give them a taste of what learning at university is like. The lectures were based on Biological Sciences, Engineering and Computing, and Psychology.
- They had a chance to explore the university campus, including world-class sports facilities that are used for training by Team GB athletes! They also had a look around the library, study spaces and Students’ Union to get a feel for what a campus university outside of London is like. Student ambassadors from the university led the tour and gave the students an insight into their day-to-day lives and why university was the right choice for them.
- Two Bath students also gave a presentation about their experiences of university, which allowed everyone to find out more about how the application process works, what they enjoy most about university life and how studying for their degree is helping to prepare them for their futures. The students then took part in a ‘Q & A’ session with a panel of university students – they asked lots of insightful and interesting questions on topics including what it’s like to live away from home, what clubs and societies the students enjoy in their free time, what financial support is available when you go to university, and how to decide which course to study and which university to choose!
Overall, the students found the trip to the University of Bath inspiring, motivational and informative.
