LIFE OF GALILEO

Sixth form Performing Arts students enjoyed their first experience of the innovative theatre shown in the Young Vic Theatre, near Waterloo.

We went to see a production called ‘Life of Galileo’, which is a play written by Bertolt Brecht, a famous theatre practitioner that we study on the performing arts course.

It was amazing to see his play updated for a contemporary audience. The Young Vic stage is in the round, and we sat up on the first level, looking down at audience members who had seats in the middle, right in the middle of the actors! The ceiling lit up with amazing projections of the stars, moons and planets that Galileo studied. The play stayed true to the epic theatre style that Brecht intended for this play, with episodic scenes, crazy musical interludes, actors playing multiple roles, and non-naturalistic harsh lighting.

It was an excellent production for the sixth form to see for their studies, and everyone enjoyed their trip.
