National School Sports Week
National School Sports Week – 26th to 30th June 2017
National School Sport Week (NSSW) 2017 was a huge celebration of everything that is great about PE and school sport, with all schools from across the UK invited to take part and #celebratePE. Having started in 2008, NSSW in 2016 saw over 5,000 schools and 1.8 million students take part.
Uxbridge High added to this number for 2017, with our focus ‘being more active’ and ‘trying new sports’. Each morning of NSSW started with a House assembly, motivating students to challenge themselves and try something new. PE lessons were given a new look, with new sports and activities on offer: Archery; Australian Rules Football; Fitness Boot Camp; Lacrosse; Judo; Karate; Ultimate Frisbee and Yoga. Many students couldn’t wait to try their hand at these new sports and come the end of each lesson we’d have many asking to do it all over again!
Clubs were also re-vamped, with a few highlights being the fitness boot camp for staff and students, lunchtime archery and a visit to a trampoline park for selected students.
Many of the NSSW activities can be seen on the PE Department Twitter feed: @UHSPE.
So successful was our NSSW that, thanks to the Youth Sports Trust, we’ve won a visit from an Athlete Mentor! More news on this visit to follow.
