Biology Workshop at Brunel University
On Friday 23rd March, Year 13 biology students attended a hands-on demonstration of common molecular biology techniques at Brunel University, with the aim to develop an appreciation of the practice in the field of genetic engineering.
Students received demonstrations on how to extract DNA from buccal cells, how to do a Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and how to separate DNA fragments of different sizes on an agarose gel.
Students had a great time extracting chromosomal DNA from their own check cells and were really pleased to create a pendant containing their DNA to take home!
