Shakespeare on Trial
In September students participated in the ‘Shakespeare in Trial’ programme. This event united Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The National Justice Museum and Brunel University, London. The programme brought both literature and the legal system to life by subjecting fully-realised fictional characters to in-depth examination, using a play as visual and textual evidence, giving young people an opportunity to experience both the world of theatre and the drama and theatricality of the courtroom.
The course also provided students with the opportunity to experience what it would be like to study in a university environment, as well as visiting London’s iconic Royal Courts of Justice. Students developed confidence in public speaking and awareness of legal procedure, as well as critical thinking; analysing evidence; ordering ideas; formulating an argument; presenting information concisely, logically and persuasively and using an appropriate tone and register.
