Principal's Weekly Update

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter, where we will be highlighting three exciting updates from Uxbridge High School. We have had a busy and rewarding week and are excited to share the key moments with you.

1. Celebrating Success: The ‘Gold and Everyone’ Rewards Event

Last week, we held our Gold in Everyone awards evening, an event designed to recognise and celebrate our students' hard work and achievements. It was a wonderful occasion, made even more special by the presence of parents. A huge thank you to those who were able to attend! Your involvement makes a difference, showing our young people how much their efforts are valued.

The event also featured an inspiring speech from a former student, motivating current students to continue to strive for excellence. For those students who could not attend, rest assured we will find a way to ensure they receive their well-deserved awards. As we approach the end of the half-term, we emphasise the importance of rewarding students. Please encourage your child to share their successes with you, whether through earning character credits, star behaviours in lessons, or the forthcoming end-of-term tea party. Your support in celebrating their achievements is invaluable.

 

2. Launch of the People Strategy: Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)

At Uxbridge High School, we are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where students and staff can thrive. Our recently launched People Strategy aims to support this mission, promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion across the school community.

Our school reflects the rich diversity of society, with all protected characteristics represented among our students and staff. This strategy is not just about creating a respectful environment but one in which everyone feels a genuine sense of belonging. 3. This Week’s Assembly: The Economics of Food and Supporting Local Economies with Mrs Matharu

This week’s assembly focused on the economics of food, a topic that ties into both business studies and economics. We have been teaching students about the importance of sourcing goods locally and supporting independent businesses. Encouraging our young people to think about where their products come from and how they can contribute to their local economy is a key part of our curriculum, particularly during this time of economic uncertainty.

In our business studies and economics lessons from Year 10, we focus on real-world connections. Through our clubs, such as the Finance Club and the Tenner Challenge, our students gain practical skills in budgeting, investment, and entrepreneurship. The Finance Club covers essential topics such as loans and mortgages, helping students prepare for their financial futures. Meanwhile, the Tenner Challenge encourages creativity and business acumen, with students often generating profits that they choose to donate to charity.

Our school trips, such as the visit to Cadbury World, provide a hands-on learning experience, giving students insight into how businesses operate in the real world. It’s these kinds of activities that we believe set our school apart and prepare students for life beyond the classroom.
