Sports Leaders
Level 3 Sports leaders
The Level 3 Sports Leaders qualification is run alongside our BTEC Level 3 Sport course. It takes place during the first year of sixth form, and allows our students to develop a wide range of skills which can support their learning, and have an impact outside the classroom. It is a nationally recognised qualification that enables successful learners to independently lead purposeful and enjoyable sport/physical activity. Students assist teachers during PE lessons, as well as delivering their own sessions to small groups of students. Students also learn the characteristics of a good leader and how they can adapt sessions to ensure they are inclusive for everyone in their group.
The course is a combination of theory and practical, and is split into six units:
- Unit 1 – Developing Leadership Skills
- Unit 2 – Leading safe sport/physical activity sessions
- Unit 3 – Know how to plan inclusive sport/physical activity sessions
- Unit 4 – Plan, lead and evaluate a progressive series of inclusive sport/physical activity sessions
- Unit 5 – Plan, lead and evaluate a sports/physical activity event (2 hours of leadership demonstration required)
- Unit 6 – Demonstrate leading inclusive sport/physical activity sessions to a range of participant groups (12 hours of leadership demonstration required)
